Privacy

SenseiQuest doesn't need to know who you are to teach you kana. Here's exactly what is and isn't stored.

On your device

Your progress — which kana you've learned, your review schedule, your streak — is saved in your browser's local storage. Nothing leaves your device unless you turn on syncing.

If you turn on sync

A sync code lets you continue on another device without an account, email, or password. When you create one, the server stores only: a randomly generated learner ID, a one-way SHA-256 hash of your sync code (never the code itself), and your progress data. Cloud data you no longer use is deleted automatically after 18 months, or immediately if you delete it yourself from Settings.

Abuse prevention

To stop the sync service from being spammed, requests are rate-limited by IP address. Those IP addresses are hashed before they're ever written down — the raw address is never stored.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (via Firebase) to see aggregate usage — things like which pages are visited and how often — so we can tell what's working. It doesn't receive your kana progress, your sync code, or anything else tied to your learning data.

What we don't do

No ads, no third-party trackers beyond the analytics above, no selling data. Text-to-speech audio uses your browser's built-in voices — nothing is sent to a server to generate it.
